20 Best Hobbies for Women in Their 20's

Our 20’s are a very interesting time. Whether you are a post grad, student, working professional or entrepreneur, you can agree that your 20’s are a time full of excitement and uncertainty to say the least. This is the time where you are supposed to make mistakes and figure out what it is you want to do with your life. Want me to let you in on a little secret?

No one has life figured out. No one.

“Your life and your dreams are your responsibility. But if you don’t prioritize them, no one will.” - Mel Robbins

Even the most successful people you look up to are still figuring out life a day at a time. So we’ll never have it 100% figured out, but as long as you are dedicated to improving 1% everyday and getting that much closer to your goals, and to learning what kind of impact you want to make, you will achieve your dreams.

Everyone Needs a Hobby: Here's Why

Often, we get so caught up with our daily routine, whether we are going to work full-time, or school that we push our hobbies off to the side, or never give ourselves the time to figure out what our passions really are. We may feel like we simply don’t have the time to pursue our hobbies. I want you to take a moment and reflect on your hobbies.

Do you have 1-2 hobbies that you do everyday that make you feel fulfilled?

How do you feel when you make time for these hobbies?

If you don’t have any, what is holding you back from finding what they are?

Life is too short to not make time for the things that make you feel excited and fulfill you. Remember that curiosity you had when you were a kid, and wanted to try something new? You felt an insane amount of joy by trying something you’ve never done before!

As we grow up, something changes, and we all of a sudden lose that sense of curiosity within us that we had when we were a child. But it doesn’t have to be that way, nor should it be that way.

These 20 Best Hobbies for Women in Their 20s are here to inspire you to try something new, and find what fulfills you. Finding new hobbies will bring so much joy into your life, and allow you to get to know yourself even better. Hobbies have been divided into 4 different sections: Physical hobbies, Creative hobbies, Social Hobbies, and Side-Hustle Hobbies.

Physical Hobbies for Young Women

Yoga

This is a great hobby to pick up if you haven’t done so already! Yoga is something anyone can do, and you can even do it from the luxury of your home, or by taking classes in person. Yoga is an amazing way to slow down, and combines mental and physical health. You can find free 30 Day Yoga Challenges online from Yoga With Adriene. I highly recommend her channel as she created videos for all people at different stages.

Weight-Lifting

I absolutely love weight-lifting and all of the benefits that come along with it! Not only does weight-lifting increase your strength physically, but also increases your mental strength and clarity as well. I find I love weight-lifting first thing in the morning, since it will give me the energy boost I need for the day, and will put me in a positive mood as well. I know some people who really enjoy weight-lifting in the evenings as well, it really just depends on personal preference!

Zumba/Dance Class

If you’ve never gone to a class, it’s time you try! Dancing is so fun, and instantly puts you in a better mood. It’s also a great place to meet new friends! Meeting friends in your 20’s isn’t always easy, especially if you’ve finished college. Our whole lives, we are given the opportunity to make friends within certain social settings - i.e. elementary/high school, and when joining extra curricular activities. Now it’s different, but we just need to approach it in a new way. Joining a group Zumba class is just one of the ways you can make new friends who share similar interests to you!

Hiking

Going for a hike is the perfect way to immerse yourself into nature! Don’t feel like going to the gym one day? A hike is the perfect alternative, and gets you outside as well. It’s an amazing cardio workout that keeps your mind and body healthy. Not to mention, a good hike will always clear your mind.

Creative Hobbies for Young Women

Journaling

It wasn’t until recently when I really started to understand the value of journaling. Journaling is an amazing way to get your thoughts written down onto paper, and to understand yourself even more. I highly recommend getting into this habit, as it can have the power to change your life.

Something that really helped me when I first began journaling was to find journal prompts related to how I was feeling at the time, and answering these questions that were outlined for me. Over time as you feel more comfortable, you can definitely begin to journal without the help of prompts, but I find them extremely helpful!

You can get access to my FREE Self-Reflection workbook & habit tracker by joining my mailing list! Each of the prompts are designed around self-reflection and can be used on a daily basis!

Painting

Painting is a beautiful art form that stimulates the creative mind and helps keep your mind sharp! Painting is so enjoyable, and can lower stress levels, and dramatically improve your mental health in a variety of ways. Painting can be a solo activity, or something fun to do with friends! As we are approaching summer, you can set up your painting workspace to even be outside amongst nature as a way to add more inspiration to your artwork, or even join a local painting night in person or via zoom.

Reading

Reading is one of those hobbies that you can pick up at any age, there’s really no reason not to! Not only is reading an incredible way to learn new information, but it significantly improves memory, analytical skills, and concentration as you get older. Did you know reading for as little as 10 minutes per day can lower your stress levels and can leave you feeling calmer than before? These are a few of the reasons why I make it a priority to read every day, even if that is as little as 10 minutes. Feeling inspired to pick up your favorite book yet? You should be!

Play an Instrument

Similar to the other creative hobbies I’ve outlined above, playing an instrument is one of the best ways to cultivate creativity. Similar to painting, playing an instrument will keep your mind sharp and teach you how to become more patient. Since you will be learning something you are very unfamiliar with, you will need to learn the skills to develop new techniques, memorize new information, and become comfortable with being uncomfortable.

Side -Hustle Hobbies for Young Women

Blogging

It goes without saying that this is one of my best hobbies for women in their 20s! Blogging is something that can become a major part of your life if you choose to do so, and are passionate about it. I started my blog as a hobby this past October, but I am hoping to build it up further and have the goal to monetize it in the near future. I’m really excited to continue along my blogging journey. This is by far one of my favorite hobbies for women in their 20's.

Start a Podcast

Podcasts have really been gaining traction over the last few years, because they are so much fun to listen to! Whether you are in the car on your way to work, going for a walk, or cooking a meal, you can listen to your favorite podcast at any time! Podcasting is something that almost anyone can do, not to mention it’s free! Even if you don’t know whether or not it will take off, why not start one just for fun and see where things go? You can start one for free using your Spotify account!

Candle -Making

I don’t know about you, but I love candles more than anything! Every season calls for a new candle, and it’s a beautiful way to relax and unwind for the day! I personally love lighting a candle either in the morning or the evening when I am reading or writing. You can easily learn how to make candles and sell them to people who you think would be interested! If you are dedicated to learning the process of candle-making from home, check out this resource to learn the basics for starting your own candle-making business!

Music

If you know how to play an instrument, or even if you don’t but want to start learning for the first time, you can definitely turn this into a side-hustle! Ask to play at a local pub and get a group of friends together to jam out with, or to be there as support! You can also always set up in an open area like a park, or downtown where many people will be and play music for them to hear!

Hobbies make us happier, healthier, and bring excitement into our lives. They have a way of igniting our passion and are an amazing way to add a little bit of joy into every day. Not only do they help us understand ourselves better, but they help us make new friends who share very similar interests as well!

Social Hobbies for Young Women

Set Up Weekly Dates with Friends

As we get older, we inevitably have many more responsibilities we need to take care of. We’re busy with school, work, commitments etc, however, if we make it a priority we can always schedule time for a friend’s date! You can go out with your best friend, or make it a group hangout especially if you don’t have as much time that week to spend with everyone! It’s an amazing way to chill out, talk about what’s on your mind, and connect on a deeper level with the people who matter most to you!

Join a Women's Sports Team

Joining a women’s sports team is one of the BEST things you can do for yourself, whether or not you consider yourself a “ sporty” person or not! Joining a women’s sports team is the perfect way to meet new people who share a similar interest to you. Playing a new sport is also very rewarding, and can build up your confidence and self-esteem as you continue to practice and get better!

Attend Community Events in Your City

This hobby requires a little extra work, but can be really fun to do, especially if you bring some of your good friends along! Going to community events in your city allows you to meet new people, and learn more about your own personal interests! Interested in taking a painting class but have never done one? Now you can if you just decide to sign up for the local painting class! You can also explore events in cities close by, or take a road trip somewhere you haven’t been before!
